I have been wearing hearing aids for more than 5 years - when we were living in Northern, NY and Ontario, CA. I was examined and followed by six different audiologists. They reviewed my medical history, tested my hearing, and provided me with two different hearing aids during this time. I believed I was getting very good care.

A new problem appeared three years ago. I was diagnosed with cognitive impairment and my memory has been steadily deteriorating since that time.

When I had my first appointment with Dr. Yakubov, she identified the problem with my ‘busted brain’ immediately. And she made the connection that would change how I feel. Right away she told me that hearing is the key to fighting problems with the brain, with memory. What I cannot hear is what I cannot remember. None of my previous six doctors had made that connection. I now believe it should be obvious. But I did not really recognize it before. By making this connection for me – Dr. Yakubov gave me new hope! A hope that better hearing could give me better memory. For someone in cognitive decline, this insight is so very important.

And then Dr. Yakubov went into her examination. She retested my hearing. She gave me new ‘bench-marks’. She provided me with a new ‘Starkey’ model hearing aid that is far superior to the hearing aid I had been using. And she spent much time with me to ‘teach’ me how to use it. And to teach my wife, my caretaker too. And she is an amazing teacher. She’s patient and very kind. She double checks the student to be sure he really understands. So very generous with her time. How often does one find this in medicine in US today?

My wife and I, we are both so very grateful we found Dr. Yakubov at Fifth Avenue Hearing. We are going back to her for a follow-up appointment next week. And we feel confident that she will be there to support us whenever we need help in the future.

She really took great care and effort to find what was wrong with my husband’s hearing. She also accommodated us with really soon appointment because my husband tinnitus was hurting his ears and came up with a solution for his hearing within the same appointment. Rufina Yakubov is a great audiologist. She fitted me with hearing aids that cured the ringing in my ears. My hearing aids are Bluetooth enabled, so I take and receive calls on my Iphone through my hearing aids, which is very convenient. Rufina is always available to answer questions.
